Side underride guards, also known as lateral protective devices (LPDs), are designed to prevent pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists from being swept under a large vehicle’s rear wheels in a side-impact collision. They are typically mounted on the sides of trucks between the axles.

AirFlow Deflector’s side underride impact guards are among the only side guard systems to have undergone six successful crash tests, including two conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). These tests, which simulated collisions at speeds up to 40 mph, demonstrated that AirFlow’s system effectively prevented Passenger Compartment Intrusion (PCI).
These successful crash test results align with the proposed standards for side underride protection devices outlined in the Side Underride Act currently under consideration by the US Congress.
